Gerard Koopman (1938)

Gerard Koopman, architect en visual artist, taught at the Art Academy in Enschede. He is best known for many works in public space that he has realised since 1985 together with friend and colleague Frank Bolink. Well known examples are the monument for the Noordoostpolder (het “Ketelhuisje” - the small Boilerhouse- , 1993) en het  Glazen Bos  -the Glass Forest - in Haaksbergen (1987/2003).

In Galerie Wit Koopman shows number of small figures made of wood, paper or cardboard. Their small size belies their monumental character. They are characterized by their architectonic design and playful humour, and radiate their maker’s enjoyment.
