Heidi Linck (1978)
For Heidi Linck, architecture not merely refers to a visible physical environment, but also to structures built to fulfill socially and politically driven ambitions, including provision of order and safety. Despite our attempts to plan and control, such structures keep changing in unforeseen ways. In Heidi Linck’s work too, spaces migrate and mix with other spaces, as if they are alive. These new spaces can be seen as metaphors for human environments, now and in the unknown future. Her installations are interventions in space. From a wide range of materials and often using shadows, she creates new, imaginable and often mobile spaces. In her search for new possible or impossible spatial environments, Heidi Linck works both inside and outside the conventional world of contemporary art. Her drawings, invariably in black ink, remind one of a room in which the light has just been turned off: over time spatial details slowly dawn on the viewer. They derive from spaces she ever saw, or created, herself and which she mixes and merges into a new configurations. She considers the totality of all spaces she ever visited as personal as her fingerprint or DNA, and regards her drawings as an archive of her own identity. Heidi Linck obtained an MSc in Food Science at Wageningen University (2002) and a BFA at the Art Academy in Arnhem (2006). She participates in “Drawing A Conclusion 8” in Peloton, Sydney, Australia (May-June 2008) and exhibited in groups shows at the Zentralwerkstatt of BVG and in GLUE - Bluetenweiss in Berlin, (2007), Gorcums Museum (2007), in the Hermitage Helmond (2007), at Moira, Utrecht (2006), and in the CODA Museum, Apeldoorn (2004).
In 2009 Heidi Linck was nominated for the Prix de Rome, with an exhibition in the Annex of De Appel, Westergasfgabriek, Amsterdam, and participated in the exhibition Made in Arnhem in the Museum for Modern Art, Arnhem with two site specific installations. At TEFAF 2010 in Maastricht, Theodoor Gilissen showed a light projection and multiple that Heidi Linck prepared as part of her residency-like art project at Theodoor Gilissen Bankiers N.V.
