During the first solo exhibition, "De Kerkuil" ("The Barn Owl") by Lotte van Lieshout in Galerie Wit (Hamelakkerlaan 38, Wageningen, NL), we will show her work from 2010, mostly inspired by recent stay in Evora, Portugal.
In 2009 Van Lieshout was nominated for the Royal Award for Painting and participated in the exhibition VanLieshoutvanLieshoutvanLieshout in Kunsthal KAdE in Amersfoort. On the occasion of the solo exhibition, we published a catalogue with a selection of her works from 2007-2009, and a text by Robbert Roos curator of KAdE, who writes:
"Central in the paintings by Lotte van Lieshout (1978) is usually a woman, a solitary person in specific surroundings. In earlier works, she finds herself in a hallucinating landscape - halfway between day and night - with some buildings here and there. Haggard dead trees and landscape elements suggested in dripping paint suggest destruction and desolation .... In her most recent paintings the vulnerability of the woman is all the more explicit : naked, laying on her back, in total submission, surrounded by a 'landscape' tending to the monochrome, as if dissolving into mist. " During an interview for the Rotterdam-based Ketel TV in March 2010 shows her while working in her studio on one of the paintings presented in the solo exhibition.
